The Palmer School of Floral Design Certification program consists of four 25-hour courses designed to teach students a broad range of floral design topics and techniques.
Beginner's Floral Design 101
25 Hours
Arrangements: Introduction to flowers, foliage, care, tools and basic elements of design. Types of containers, choice of flowers, complementary colors, and the color wheel will be covered. Students will participate in making hand bouquets, bud vase arrangements, European floral designs, round arrangements, ribbons and bows. We will practice taping and wiring flowers to make boutonnières and corsages, as well as pricing the arrangements we make. Quiz.

Basic Floral Design 102
25 Hours
Celebration Designs: Demonstration and participation with popular designs, including Triangular, Crescent, Hogarth and Colonial. Students will practice making wreaths, swags, wedding bouquets, corsages and boutonnières. We will create popular, unique blooms such as glamelias and feathered carnations. Taping and wiring flowers, bows and ribbons will be explored in depth. Pricing and markup will be practices. Quiz.

Basic Floral Design 103
25 Hours
Oriental and Traditional Designs: Demonstration and Student participation on Japanese designs, including Ikebana and others. Students will be introduced to designing arrangements for Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas and Sympathy occasions. Wedding bouquets and corsages, seasonal wreaths, door decorations, plants, dish gardens, terrariums and plant decorations will also be covered. Students will practice taking and sending wire orders. Advanced Floral Design 104
25 Hours
High Style Designs: Demonstration and Student participation in choosing the proper flowers, foliage and container for the appropriate High Style Designs. Topiaries, European, Colonial, Oriental, Celebration and centerpiece designs will be introduced. Students will practice wreath, swags, window displays, Christmas and Seasonal decorating. Markup, pricing and profit will be covered. Exam. Field trip.
